About RT Image Matching Trainer
RT Image Matching Trainer is an independent educational platform that helps radiation therapy students and professionals practise image matching, patient-positioning concepts, couch corrections, and simulated treatment workflows.
Why I built it
When I completed my radiation therapy education, I recognized how few accessible opportunities students had to practise image matching and explore treatment workflows outside the clinical setting. That experience inspired me to create RT Image Matching Trainer.
Today, as a practicing radiation therapist with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science, I continue developing the platform to provide learners with practical, repeatable simulation experiences.
My goal is to complement classroom instruction and supervised clinical training with an approachable environment where learners can explore concepts, make decisions, receive feedback, and learn through practice.
How it is developed
My clinical experience helps inform the situations and concepts represented throughout the trainer. Development also draws on technical research, published educational resources, appropriately licensed imaging data, and feedback from learners and educators.
The simulations combine original software, purpose-built educational models, simulated clinical information, and source material released by its publishers for reuse. Images may be cropped, resampled, reconstructed, projected, or otherwise modified for educational use. Synthetic targets, setup errors, treatment scenarios, motion, plans, tolerances, and displayed values are identified where appropriate.

Project independence
RT Image Matching Trainer is independently created and maintained by Craig Utter. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any equipment manufacturer, healthcare organization, educational institution, professional association, or credentialing body.
References to equipment, treatment techniques, professional terminology, or workflow concepts are provided for educational identification and context. The trainer does not reproduce or replace any particular manufacturer’s clinical system.
RT Image Matching Trainer is educational software and is not a medical device. It must not be used to make clinical decisions; plan, verify, or deliver patient treatment; establish clinical competency; award professional certification; or replace institutional policies, manufacturer-approved training, qualified instruction, or supervised clinical experience.
The trainer does not require patient-image uploads. Users should never enter identifiable patient information in trainer, classroom, feedback, or support fields.
